7 April, 2017 – the report of the Director of the Institute for African Studies RAS Irina O. Abramova at the General meeting of the Coordination Committee for Economic Cooperation with Sub-Saharan Africa (AfroCom)

On 7 April 2017, the Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr.Sc (Econ.) Irina Olegovna Abramova spoke at the General meeting of the Coordination Committee for Economic Cooperation with Sub-Saharan Africa (AfroCom).

In the course of the meeting, the election of the Chairman of the Coordination Committee took place. By the decision of the General Meeting, Pyotr Mikhailovich Fradkov, General Director of JSC "Russian Export Center" was elected the Chairman of AfroCom.
Director of the Institute for African Studies RAS, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Olegovna Abramova was elected the Vice-Chairman of AfroCom.

It was also decided to appoint Irina O. Abramova Head of the Expert Council of AfroCom.

At the General meeting, participants discussed the state and prospects of development of trade and economic relations with the countries of Africa south of the Sahara. The new Chairman of AfroCom, Pyotr M. Fradkov, spoke on "Priority Areas of Work and Tasks for the Near Future."

The reports were also made by the First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation G.S. Nikitin; Director of the Institute for African Studies RAS, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences I.O. Abramova; Director of JSC “VNIKI”, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.N. Spartak; Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council for the Development of Relations with African Countries at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Moscow Region, L.V. Demidova.

The discussion was attended by the representatives of Russian ministries and departments, business communities and the press.

The General meeting of AfroCom decided to instruct the Executive Secretariat to formulate a list of promising economic cooperation projects with the countries of sub-Saharan Africa.
