On July 3-5, 2018 The Conference "Eastern Europe – Global Area / Das östliche Europa in globalen Bezügen"

On July 3-5, 2018 Leipzig (Germany) hosted the conference "Eastern Europe – Global Area / Das östliche Europa in globalen Bezügen", organized by the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (Leibniz-Institut für Geschichte und Kultur des östlichen Europa) and the ScienceCampus Eastern Europe - Global Area. The event was attended by representatives of academic and expert circles from Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and the United Kingdom.
The Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences was represented by the Senior Research Fellow of the Center for Global and Strategic Studies K.Aleshin, Ph.D. In his speech on "Africa and the National Interests of Russia", which took place in the framework of the section "Eastern Europe and the Global South in Cold War Times", he assessed the potential of the African continent, the results of Soviet-African cooperation, the state of Russia's current trade and investment relations with African countries, focused on the opportunities and prospects for their intensification. K.Aleshin also outlined the role of the RAS Institute for African Studies as an expert institution that promotes the development of cooperation between the Russian Federation and Africa.
The theses of participants' speeches were published upon the results of the conference.
