On November 1, 2021, South Africa held a five-year municipal election, the sixth since the establishment of universal democracy in 1994. The local government councils are a showcase of strength for South African political parties and often anticipate future electoral trends. In a year, South Africa is due to hold elections in the ruling African National Congress (ANC), and in 2024 the country will face general national and regional elections.
