April 10-11, 2025 International Scientific Conference “Colonial, Neo-colonial and Post-colonial Policies of the West in Historical Retrospect”

On April 10-11, 2025, members of the Institute of African Studies participated in the International Scientific Conference titled “Colonial, Neocolonial and Postcolonial Policies of the West in Historical Retrospect,” which was organized by the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The plenary session was addressed by Natalya Zherlitsyna, D. Sc. (History), a Deputy Director, who spoke on the topic “Assimilation and Association as Two Main Methods of Colonial Policy in North Africa in the 19th and First Half of the 20th Century,” and Denis Degterev, D. Sc. (Political Science), PhD (Economics), a Principal Research Fellow, who presented on “From Historical Research to Critical Analysis of the Anti-colonial Struggle in the Context of Modern African Strategy of the Russian Federation.”

During the panel discussions, presentations were delivered by Evgenii Morozov, Ph.D. (History), a Senior Research Fellow, who discussed “The Egyptian Debt Fund as a Tool of British and French Colonial Strategy,” and Nadezhda Khokholkova, Ph.D. (History), a Senior Research Fellow, who focused on “The Decolonization of Cultural Heritage of Sub-Saharan Africa: Actors, Challenges, and Prospects”.
