The Institute for African Studies Joins the “Russian-African Network University” Consortium
On June 19, 2025, the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences officially became a permanent member of the Russian-African Network University (RASU) consortium. The corresponding agreement was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute, Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the RAS, Doctor of Economics, and Professor, and Andrey Rudskoy, Chair of the RASU Presidium, Rector of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Academician of the RAS, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor.

The Institute’s accession to RASU represents a logical and strategic step toward strengthening scientific, educational, and innovation-driven cooperation between Russia and African nations. The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to developing joint activities in higher and continuing professional education, scientific research, and humanitarian and socio-economic initiatives.
As a permanent member of the consortium, the Institute for African Studies will be able to: participate in the development and implementation of joint projects; contribute to the creation of RASU’s academic and scientific programs; take part in Presidium meetings with full voting rights and submit proposals on strategic matters concerning the consortium’s development.
Established in 2021, RASU serves as a platform for consolidating the efforts of Russian and African academic and research institutions. Its mission is to create a unified educational space that ensures equal access to knowledge and educational resources for all participating countries. Today, the consortium actively promotes academic mobility, scientific exchange, and cross-border educational initiatives.
The inclusion of the Institute for African Studies significantly expands the consortium’s intellectual and expert capacity, opening up new horizons for cooperation and fostering deeper and more systematic engagement with African partners.
