On May 30, 2023, the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the Interuniversity Scientific Conference with international participation “De-radicalization of Religiously Motivated Extremists: Opportunities and Prospects”. The conference organizers are the Centre for Civilizational and Regional Studies of the IAfr RAS, the Center for Islamic Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Department of Ethnopsychology and Psychological Problems of Multicultural Education of the Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University.

There were 4 sections at the conference:

Deradicalization: Resources of Psychology and Pedagogy (Moderator Kharitonova Elena Vladimirovna, Ph.D. in Psychology, Associate Professor, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Civilizational and Regional Studies, Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences);
Deradicalization of Religiously Motivated Extremists: The Experience of Russia and the CIS Countries (Moderator Igor Sledzevsky, Leading Research Fellow, Doctor of History, Professor, Head of the Centre for Civilizational and Regional Studies, Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences);
Deradicalization: the experience of foreign countries (moderator Rakhimbek Sarkhadbekovich Bobokhonov, Ph.D. in History, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Civilizational and Regional Studies, Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences)

The conference heard 25 reports prepared by scientists from the Center for Civilizational and Regional Studies of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Islamic Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University, the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education, the Department of Research Activities of the Main Directorate of Criminology of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Department 3 of the Research Center No. 4 of the All-Russian Research Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Anti-Terrorist Commission in the Republic of Adygea, the Institute of Sociology of the Federal Scientific Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Institute of Pedagogy and Educational Psychology of the Moscow State Pedagogical University , RANEPA under the President of the Russian Federation, Voronezh State University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Bulgarian Islamic Academy (Republic of Tatarstan), Chechen State University named after Ahmat Kadyrov, Center for Analysis and Development of Interfaith Relations LLP (Kazakhstan), Maikop State Technological University, Dagestan State University of National Economy.

Conference program
