13 April 2024 ХХ International Congress "Blishchenko Readings" - "International Law in the Global Civilisational Confrontation"
The Department of International Law of the Law Institute of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba has the honour to invite scholars, teachers, practitioners, postgraduates, students and all interested persons to participate in the ХХ International Congress "Blishchenko Readings".
The theme of the Congress is "International Law in the Global Civilisational Confrontation".
Representatives of the UN system in the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, institutes of the RAS system are invited to participate in the Congress.
The Congress will bе held in the format of а plenary session, sections and round tables. tо finalise the topics of the sections and round tables, please inform us of your wishes bу 20 October 2023.
То determine the priority topics of discussion, the following significant events should bе taken into account in 2024:
• Ending of the International Decade for People of African Descent on 31 December 2024, proclaimed on the basis of the UNGA Resolution of 23 December 2013. It is part of the UN's efforts to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.
• Ending of the Decade of Sustainable Energy to Promote New and Renewable Energy in 2024, proclaimed bу UNGA Resolution of 21December 2012.
• 80 years since the adoption of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation (1944).
• 75 years since the adoption of the Geneva Conventions (1949).
• 55 years since the adoption of the Convention on the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa (1969).
• 50 years since the adoption of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States (1974).
• 45 years since the adoption of the Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (1979).
• 40 years since the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Torture аnd Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (1984).
• 35 years since the adoption of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (1989).
• 30 years since the adoption of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, Particu1ar1y i11Africa (1994).
• 30 years since the entry into force of the 1982 United Nations Convention the Law of the Sea (1994).
The Congress will bе held 011 13 April 2024 (Saturday) ill а face-to-face format at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia 11amed after Patrice Lumumba, Miklukho-Maklaya str. 6, Moscow. Registratio11will take place in the lobby of the main buildi11g of RUDN from 9.00 to 10.00. The plenary sessio11 will take рlасе in the auditoritim from 10.00 to 11.30. Coffee break - from 11:30 to 13:00. Sections and round tabes will bе held from 13.00 to 17.00. At 17.10 the closi11g ceremony and summarising the results of the Congress will begin.
The results of the XIX Blishchenko Readings will bе published and posted 011the website of the RUDN Department of lnternatio11al Law before the ХХ Congress.
