On September 19, 2023, at the next meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the issue of awarding the RAS Prize named after Nikolay Miklouho-Maclay of 2023 was positively considered of 2023 for Corresponding Member. RAS, Doctor of Historical Sciences, prof. Dmitry Mikhailovich Bondarenko for the monograph “Postcolonial nations in the historical and cultural context.” Congratulations!

At the meeting, it was noted that the work is a fundamental, large-scale work in which the historical and cultural foundations of the formation of nations in different civilizations are developed. The author sets the task of showing how the formation of nations in the post-colonial states of Asia and Africa fits into the world-historical process. The author's understanding of the course of the historical process is deeply conceptual. In his analysis, Dmitry Bondarenko relies on the theory of multiple modernities by Sh. Aizenstein, as well as on the theory of the Axial Time by K. Jasper and several others, to which the author makes important additions and clarifications. Research by D Dmitry Bondarenko relies heavily on numerous field studies in various African countries. The work represents an innovative attempt to fit the process of nation formation in the post-colonial states of Asia and Africa into the general flow of world history and also opens up new perspectives for the study of nations. This makes the monograph by Dmitry Bondarenko “Postcolonial Nations in a Historical and Cultural Context” an important contribution both to African studies and to historical and anthropological sciences in general.
